SYTYCDC3 - Bawlywood

So You Think You Can Dance Canada - Season 3 - Top 20 Results Night - The Cut from 20 to 18 - Ep. 310
Judges: Jean-Marc Généreux, Tré Armstrong, Luther Brown, Mia Michaels

Top 20 Group Dance
Choreographed by: Longinus Fernandes
Style: Bollywood
Song: "Jai Ho" - A.R. Rahman featuring Sukhwinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, Mahalaxmi Iyer & Vijay Prakash from the Slumdog Millionaire Soundtrack
Grade: A-

Bollywood is always fun and I think it tends to play better to the camera (well, considering it was sort of designed for film!). It's also interesting who starts pulling my eye, and while I admit, I couldn't tell most girls from each other, Julia, easier to pick out as the sole black woman dancer, seemed pretty great here. And Mackenzie stood apart from some of the other male dancers. (Someone else did too but I couldn't figure out who it was. I think it was Jesse).

My Predictions from the Top 20 Performances
Bottom 3 Couples:
Claudia and Yonni
Bree and Edgar
Janick and Shavar

Should Go Home: Claudia and Yonni
Going Home: Claudia and Yonni

The Actual Bottom 3 Couples Are:

Claudia and Yonni
Kirsten and Jera
Bree and Edgar

So I got 2 out of 3 right.

Dance for Your Life

Claudia Primeau
Style: Ballroom
Song: "Alors on danse" - Stromae
Grade: B-

Kirsten Wicklund
Style:Contemporary Ballet
Song: "I Don't Feel It Anymore (Song of the Sparrow)" - William Fitzsimmons
Grade: B

Bree Wasylenko
Style: Contemporary
Song: "What Sound" - Lamb
Grade: B+

Of the girls, I thought Bree had the most interesting solo, adding some nice unbalanced motions to the piece and giving it a quirkiness. I thought Claudia looked great in that dance but it seemed like just a lot of hip shaking and nothing else, and it got a bit trance-inducing (in a bad way).

Yonni Fournier
Style: Salsa
Song: "Echa Pa' Lante" - Thalia
Grade: A

Jera Wolfe
Style: Ballet/Breaker
Song: "If I Ever Feel Better" - Phoenix
Grade: A-

Edgar Gilbert-Reyes
Style: Hip-Hop
Song: "All Night Long" - Robin Thicke feat. Lil Wayne
Grade: B+

Yonni's was a bit cheeseball but it had so much energy and played right to the audience that I had to kinda love it. Jera's mixed his two different styles, ballet and breaker, into a fun, showy, cocky piece, and he knows we love it and yes we do. He needs to make his solos a bit more cohesive but he's on his way to perfecting a cool mix of styles. Edgar's so hip and cool dancing his style, but against the other two, felt like the least "special".

Going Home

Bree Wasylenko. WHAT???
Ok, she had little screen time so like Hani, I think didn't get as many votes, but was one of the stronger dancers here. Bree managed to transfer herself both weeks and had the best solo here, so I'm disappointed that she's gone.

Yonni Fournier is cut from the guys and based on the couples dance, I had this predicted, but after seeing his solo, I wish I could see more because it showed lots of potential there. So does having an i ending your name get you cut as a guy? Or, you know, something else that I'm not even going to mention here?

I'm actually already sad about some of these early eliminations. This isn't going to bode well for the rest of the season is it?
