Calculating The Reader

Kate Winlset + German accent = Credibility

David Kross - Period Clothes = Hot Sexy Edginess

Stephen Daldry + David Hare + Sydney Pollack + Anthony Minghella + Harvey Weinstein + Lena Olin + Ralph Fiennes = Hollywood Indie = 80's and 90's Oscar Lovefests

Credibility + Hot Sexy Edginess + Holocaust + Hollywood Indie = 2008 Best Picture Nomination

It was sentimental. It was pretending to be smarter than it probably was. It was shot so smoothly and sharply that even the projection felt like it had rounded corners. And I loved every minute of it.

One note though, why isn't David Kross' performance getting any attention from the awards? Beyond the inappropriately hotness he exudes, his English language debut is remarkable and mesmerizing.

If Kate Winslet was the ingenue that proved she could hold her own against Emma Thompson in Sense and Sensibility, here, Kate is the standard that Kross more than lives up to.

The Reader = A- or 9/10
